Thailand PM Anutin Plans First Official Malaysia Visit Ahead 47th ASEAN Summit
Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to make his first official visit to Malaysia on October 25, 2025, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This visit precedes the 47th ASEAN Summit, hosted by Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28, where Anutin will join other regional and global leaders, including U.S. President Donald J. Trump, to discuss regional cooperation on peace, economic growth, and sustainability. The bilateral meeting between Anutin and Anwar aims to strengthen ties through enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, border security, connectivity, tourism, and people-to-people relations, reflecting the warm and longstanding friendship between the two ASEAN neighbors. The visit also follows Anwar's working visit to Bangkok earlier in 2025, emphasizing mutual commitment to regional stability and prosperity. Thailand was Malaysia's seventh-largest trading partner globally and third-largest within ASEAN in 2024, with trade continuing to grow in 2025. The ASEAN Summit is expected to address critical issues such as regional economic recovery, digital transformation, climate resilience, and geopolitical stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
