Ex-Girl Guide Leader Charged With Sexual Offences

Karen Spence, a 64-year-old former Girl Guides of Canada leader from Georgina, Ontario, was arrested on April 21, 2025, and charged with three counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a young person related to alleged offences between 1998 and 2002, when the victim was under 16. The investigation began in March 2025 after a victim reported abuse by their Pathfinders leader, a Girl Guides branch for 12- to 14-year-olds. Spence held senior roles with the Girl Guides from 1995 to 2001 and was also involved as a youth hockey coach and referee. Police believe there may be more victims and have released Spence's photo, urging others to come forward. Authorities note there is no statute of limitations on sexual assault in Canada, and support services are available for those not ready to report. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
