Cain Velasquez transferred to Soledad prison for attempted murder sentence
Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been transferred from Wasco State Prison to the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, California, to serve the remainder of his five-year sentence for attempted murder. Velasquez was convicted after he pursued and fired at Harry Goularte, who is accused of molesting Velasquez’s young son, during a high-speed chase in 2022; instead of Goularte, the gunfire wounded Goularte’s stepfather. The sentencing judge credited Velasquez with significant time served and acknowledged the emotional complexity of the case, noting both the severity of Velasquez's actions and the trauma his family endured. Despite prosecutors seeking a much longer sentence, Velasquez received the minimum term and could be eligible for parole as early as next year, depending on behavior and participation in prison programs. The Correctional Training Facility is known for its rehabilitative efforts, offering vocational and self-help programs to inmates. Goularte, the alleged victim in the molestation case, is awaiting trial, while the Velasquez and Goularte families are also involved in a separate civil lawsuit.
