Brevard Teacher Faces Misdemeanor Charges After Underage Drinking Party

Karly Anderson, a Brevard County teacher, faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and disorderly intoxication related to her alleged involvement in a January house party attended by over 100 teenagers where underage drinking occurred. The incident took place at the home of Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan, then principal of Roosevelt Elementary, who was also arrested and faces more serious charges. Although Anderson was initially charged with child neglect, the state attorney later dropped the felony charge, opting for lesser misdemeanors. Anderson's attorney is seeking dismissal of the charges, arguing that her behavior, captured in police bodycam footage, does not meet the legal standard for prosecution, but a judge has denied the motion to dismiss. Anderson was reinstated to teaching after being cleared by the Department of Children and Families and the district, but was placed on leave again after the bodycam video was released. Anderson has rejected a plea deal and the case is set to go to trial.
