Gippy Grewal Calls for Sikh CBFC Representation

Punjabi actor Gippy Grewal has advocated for the inclusion of a Sikh representative on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), emphasizing its importance for accurately representing Sikh culture and religion in films. His comments come amid controversy surrounding Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency', which has faced backlash from Sikh organizations for alleged misrepresentation. Grewal highlighted his experience with his film 'Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di', stating that he sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Hazur Sahib management before submitting the film to the CBFC. He believes that while the CBFC can identify general flaws, recognizing religious nuances requires an expert familiar with the faith. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has echoed this sentiment, demanding Sikh representation in the board to prevent unilateral decisions. Grewal concluded that having a Sikh member would not only be beneficial but poses no harm in fostering better understanding within the film community.
