Tame Impala Debuts New Songs Live for A24's Sound Check Series in New York
Tame Impala recently released their fifth studio album, Deadbeat, which showcases a psychedelic rock vibe inspired by Western Australia's rave scene and bush doof culture. To promote the album, Kevin Parker and his band performed three songs—"My Old Ways," "Dracula," and "Loser"—in A24's new live series, Sound Check at Cherry Lane Theatre, an intimate New York venue, with the performance directed by Sean Durkin. This set marked the live debut of "My Old Ways" and the first full-band performances of "Dracula" and "Loser," following an all-acoustic Tiny Desk Concert where the band played acoustic versions of some tracks. Deadbeat has been met with mixed reactions, but the band is gearing up for a U.S. tour starting October 27 and a European tour in the spring, along with DJ appearances by Parker. The Sound Check series aims to capture artists in intimate live settings, with Tame Impala as its second featured act. The album and performances highlight Parker's evolving approach to live shows, blending intimate acoustic sets with arena-ready full-band presentations.
