IOC Condemns Indonesia's Ban on Israeli Gymnasts

Indonesia denied entry visas to Israel’s national gymnastics team for the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, which begin on 19 October 2025, citing support for Palestinians and its lack of diplomatic ties with Israel. The Israeli Gymnastics Federation appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport seeking guarantees, a move or cancellation of the event, but CAS rejected the request, meaning Israeli athletes will not compete. The International Olympic Committee expressed "great concern" and condemned the visa refusal as contrary to the Olympic Charter’s non‑discrimination principles. The IOC said it had contacted the International Gymnastics Federation and Indonesian authorities but found no resolution, and will discuss the situation at its next Executive Board meeting. The decision prevents competitors — including defending world floor champion Artem Dolgopyat — from participating. The move echoes previous instances where Indonesia has denied entry to Israeli athletes or withdrawn hosting rights over Israel’s participation.
