Bridget Jones Statue to Be Unveiled in London's Leicester Square
Bridget Jones, the beloved character created by Helen Fielding and portrayed by Renée Zellweger in four hit romantic comedies, is set to be immortalized with a bronze statue in London's Leicester Square. This will be the first romantic comedy character to receive such an honor in this iconic film district, where the statue will stand near the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square, close to the premiere location of the latest film, "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy." The unveiling ceremony on November 17 will be attended by Zellweger, co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leo Woodall, Sally Phillips, and Working Title co-chairman Eric Fellner, who described Bridget as a "proper London heroine" and expressed excitement about the milestone. The statue joins other cinematic icons like Mary Poppins, Batman, Paddington, and Daniel Kaluuya's character from "Get Out" on the Scenes in the Square movie statue trail. Fellner also mentioned that a fifth Bridget Jones movie would be "a wonderful idea," reflecting ongoing enthusiasm for the franchise. The 25th anniversary of the first Bridget Jones film is approaching, highlighting the character's enduring popularity and cultural impact.
