Communities Stage Halloween Festivals and Charity Events
Communities across the U.S. are marking the Halloween season this weekend with family-friendly festivals, haunted attractions and charity events, including trick-or-treating pop-ups, retro gaming expos, pumpkin regattas and benefit rides. Hyatt Regency Maui is staging its Annual Haunted House on Oct. 25–26 and Oct. 31 and will host a Halona Kai Halloween Spooktacular with a kid-friendly outdoor movie and its first-ever Halloween lūʻau. In Baton Rouge, BREC’s Boo at the Zoo, LSU Ag Center corn maze weekends, haunted hikes, Benny’s haunted car wash and the Fifolet Halloween Festival are running through Oct. 26, while Knox Mansion in Johnstown, N.Y., is offering themed haunted tours on several October nights. Community benefit events range from the Wilmington Lions Club’s Ride For Sight poker run on Oct. 18 to Spirit of Children hospital parties—supported by Spirit Halloween stores—that donate costumes, toys and funds to children’s hospitals; Spirit has donated about $1.1 million to Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s over the past decade. Portland’s weekend lineup also includes the Retro Gaming Expo, Disney On Ice, cultural festivals and the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta, illustrating the wide variety of seasonal programming available for all ages.
