NYC Mayor Adams Corruption Case Documents Unsealed
A large cache of documents related to the dismissed federal corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams was unsealed, revealing details of the investigation and prosecution that never reached trial. Adams was indicted on charges including bribery and solicitation of illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals, accused of accepting luxury travel and other gifts in exchange for political favors while serving as Brooklyn borough president and mayor. The investigation began in 2021 and included allegations of a straw donor scheme and efforts to facilitate the opening of the Turkish consulate in Manhattan. Despite the charges, the Justice Department under the Trump administration ordered prosecutors to drop the case, citing concerns it hindered immigration enforcement, leading to multiple resignations among federal prosecutors. The unsealed documents include search warrants, affidavits, and communications showing Adams’ attempts to solicit foreign campaign donations, including plans to raise funds in Turkey for his 2025 re-election campaign. Adams has denied wrongdoing and characterized the allegations as politically motivated, while a federal judge criticized the dismissal as a possible bargain linked to immigration policy concessions.
