Nelly Furtado Pauses Live Performances

On Oct. 24, Nelly Furtado announced she will step away from performing for the foreseeable future, marking the 25th anniversary of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!. In an emotional Instagram post she reflected on reaching a new generation of fans, thanked collaborators and audiences, and said performing again reaffirmed “the true lasting power of good music.” She emphasized she still loves writing music and will always identify as a songwriter but gave no specific details about future projects. The announcement follows a recent return to touring in support of her latest album, 7 (released Sept. 2024), including European festival dates this summer, and comes after earlier pauses in her career. Her album 7 was a significant project that included a collaboration with her daughter.
