Disney+ Exits Doctor Who Co‑Production
Disney+ has ended its two‑season co‑production of Doctor Who after producing 26 episodes and will not co‑fund future seasons; a five‑part spin‑off co‑produced with Disney+ (The War Between the Land and the Sea) and a CBeebies animated series are still set to be released, and Disney seasons remain available to stream for now. The BBC said it remains “fully committed,” confirmed a Russell T. Davies–written Christmas special for 2026, and says it is exploring new international distribution while U.S. arrangements remain unclear. Reports cite high production costs (about $13 million per episode) and underwhelming viewing figures as key reasons for Disney+'s withdrawal. Ncuti Gatwa’s run ended in May and the season finale featured a surprise regeneration into Billie Piper, prompting debate about the show’s creative direction.
