Lithuania Adds 870 MW Solar Capacity, Sets Record

Lithuania achieved a record installation of 870 MW of solar capacity in 2024, boosting its total solar capacity to over 1.97 GW, driven by favorable policies and subsidies for households and businesses. The country aims to reach 5.1 GW of solar capacity by 2030 as part of its National Energy and Climate Plan, with significant projects like Nordic Solar's new 80-MWp solar park contributing to this goal. Nordic Solar's ongoing projects, including an 80-MWp facility and a previously completed 100-MWp installation, are expected to enhance Lithuania's energy independence and create jobs. Swedbank's financing support for these solar initiatives reflects a collaborative effort to transition towards renewable energy. The government is also working on strengthening cybersecurity measures for its digital electricity infrastructure amid rising geopolitical concerns. Lithuania's commitment to renewable energy is evident, as it aims for 100% locally produced electricity by 2030.
