NHS Doctor Faces Second Tribunal Over Pro-Hamas Posts Amid Arrest for Racial Hatred
Dr. Rahmeh Aladwan, a British-Palestinian junior NHS trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, is facing medical tribunal hearings over allegations of antisemitism and praising Hamas, particularly regarding the October 7 attacks on Israel. She has publicly stated she would "never" condemn these attacks and has worn a gold necklace featuring the number seven, which she described as "celebratory jewellery" on social media. Despite a previous tribunal clearing her of similar allegations on the basis that her social media posts did not constitute bullying or harassment, the General Medical Council (GMC) has re-referred her case, citing new evidence of continued concerning conduct and support for proscribed terrorist groups. Dr. Aladwan was also arrested on charges related to racial hatred and malicious communication concerning her social media posts. Health Secretary Wes Streeting criticized the earlier tribunal's decision, expressing a lack of confidence in the medical regulation system and warning that such language and behavior by medics undermines public trust in the profession. Supporters filled the public gallery during her hearings, while her legal representatives accused the GMC and the Health Secretary of attempting to undermine independent tribunal decisions.
