Netherlands Seizes Nexperia, China Blocks Exports
The Dutch government seized control of Chinese-owned chipmaker Nexperia under emergency national-security powers, and Beijing responded by blocking exports of Nexperia’s finished products. Nexperia China reportedly instructed staff to ignore orders from the company’s Dutch headquarters, raising concerns about operational control and potential disruptions for U.S. and European automakers. Dutch Economy Minister Vincent Karremans has held talks with Chinese officials and expects further meetings, and China’s commerce minister has also spoken with Dutch and EU counterparts as Prime Minister Dick Schoof said the intervention was not aimed at China. Chinese state media condemned the seizure as illegal and politically motivated. Negotiations are ongoing as European and Chinese officials work to de-escalate the standoff and prevent supply-chain risks.
