Philip Pullman Announces Final Book of Dust Trilogy, 'The Rose Field'

Philip Pullman has announced 'The Rose Field,' the final volume in The Book of Dust trilogy, which will bring to a close the epic story of Lyra Silvertongue, first introduced in the His Dark Materials series nearly 30 years ago. Set immediately after 'The Secret Commonwealth,' the novel follows an adult Lyra as she journeys through deserts and Silk Roads to search for her separated daemon, Pantalaimon, alongside her mentor Malcolm Polstead. The story is described as both a thriller and a bildungsroman, exploring psychological and moral growth as Lyra and Malcolm confront old and new adversaries, including the Magisterium and the enigmatic Men from the Mountains. Pullman has stated that the book also serves as a vision of a changing world, reflecting on the shifting influence from traditional institutions to modern forces like commerce and technology. 'The Rose Field' will delve into the nature of imagination and consciousness, with Lyra on the verge of discovering the true meaning of Dust. The book is set for release on October 23 and will be narrated by actor Michael Sheen.
