Airlines Expand Domestic and Global Routes
Major carriers — led by United, American, Allegiant and Frontier — are rolling out broad domestic and international network expansions for 2025–26 that add new routes, leisure links and regional connectivity. United is adding about 10 new routes from Chicago O'Hare, planning to resume daily service at Carlsbad's McClellan‑Palomar airport (pending a county lease and facing local legal opposition), and raising summer Denver–Anchorage frequencies to as many as four daily flights. The airline is also expanding internationally with new European services (including Croatia, Scotland, Italy and Spain), a third daily Newark–Tel Aviv nonstop, continued New York–Faro summer service, and enhanced Asian connectivity including a Los Angeles–Hong Kong–Bangkok routing. South American capacity will grow as Uruguay's new carrier, SUA Líneas Aéreas, prepares to launch A220 service alongside route additions from Aerolíneas Argentinas and Azul, and other carriers are adding or restoring leisure links such as Frontier into Richmond, Virgin's return to Cancun and new long‑haul services from airlines like AirAsia X. These expansions are extending the transatlantic season and occurring amid competitive pressures and community, environmental and airport‑use concerns that could affect timing and operations.
