Blumhouse Wins 'Something Is Killing Children' Rights

Blumhouse has acquired the screen rights to James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s Boom! Studios horror comic Something Is Killing the Children and will develop it as both a live-action feature film and an adult animated series. The comic, which debuted in 2019, follows monster hunter Erica Slaughter in a world where only children can see the creatures that prey on them. Blumhouse won the rights after a multi-company bidding war that included Netflix and Lionsgate; the property previously had stalled development at Netflix with Mike Flanagan and later Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese attached. James Tynion IV will executive-produce and shepherd the animated series, with Werther Dell’Edera co-producing, while Jason Blum will produce the film alongside producers and executive producers from BOOM! Studios and Blumhouse. Both Blumhouse and Tynion have emphasized preserving the comic’s tone as they expand the world across formats.
