Flood Displaces Over 970 Households, Children in Kaduna Communities

Severe flooding caused by heavy rains has devastated multiple communities in Kaduna State, Nigeria, including Manchok in Kaura Local Government Area, Zaria, and Kaduna North. The floods destroyed homes, farmlands, plantations, and essential household items, leaving hundreds of families displaced and struggling to recover. In Manchok, residents blame blocked drains and poor waste management for worsening the flood's impact, prompting youth-led efforts to clear waterways while awaiting government intervention. In Zaria, over 270 homes were damaged, displacing more than 470 children, with local government and emergency agencies conducting assessments and calling for urgent aid. Similarly, in Kaduna North's Kigo Road Extension, over 500 households were displaced, facing additional security threats from theft amid the chaos. Relief agencies, including the Nigerian Red Cross Society and NEMA, are actively distributing aid but emphasize the need for more support from government and humanitarian organizations to address the ongoing crisis.
