Spurs Rout Mavericks 125-92; Flagg Struggles in Debut
Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick and 6-foot-9 rookie for the Dallas Mavericks, had a difficult NBA debut, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 3-for-14. He started at point guard — a position he had never played — did not score until the second half, committed multiple turnovers and recorded zero assists. The Mavericks were routed 125-92 by the San Antonio Spurs as Victor Wembanyama dominated with 40 points and 15 rebounds. Wembanyama’s performance came in his assertive return to the regular season after surgery for a blood clot. Coach Jason Kidd praised Flagg for playing within himself and his poise, and Flagg called the outing “not great” while saying he needs to move on.
