Pirates Fan Critically Hurt in Accidental Fall at Game
Kavan Markwood, a 20-year-old former college football player and South Allegheny High School graduate, fell over 20 feet from the right field railing at Pittsburgh's PNC Park during the seventh inning of a Pirates-Cubs game. Witnesses reported Markwood was visibly excited, taking off his shirt and pouring beer on himself moments before the fall. Authorities have described the incident as accidental in nature. Markwood was left in critical condition and was transported to Allegheny General Hospital after medical personnel from both teams responded quickly. He previously played linebacker at Wheeling University and Walsh University and is remembered by his community and coaches for his resilience and kindness. The Pirates organization, school officials, and former coaches have issued statements of support and prayers for Markwood and his family.
