Tornadoes Kill 27, Wreck Kentucky Missouri Power Outages

Severe storms and tornadoes that struck Kentucky, Missouri, and several other states have resulted in at least 27 deaths and widespread devastation, with Kentucky and the St. Louis area among the hardest hit. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reported over 700 personnel are working to restore power, which has been lost by more than 540,000 people across affected states. The National Weather Service warned that damage assessments could take multiple days due to the tornadoes' extensive paths. St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer described the storm as one of the worst in the city's history, marking the first fatal tornado there in decades. Matthew 25 Ministries announced plans to respond by providing essential supplies and services such as hygiene products, first aid kits, and mobile facilities for showers and laundry to impacted communities in Kentucky and Missouri. The charity has experience responding to major crises and has shipped over 29 million pounds of supplies in 2024 alone to aid more than 35 million people.
