Garbage Truck Worker Killed in Lincoln County Crash

Brandon Carpenter, a 35-year-old sanitation worker and father of three from Dallas, North Carolina, was fatally struck by a car while working at the rear of a garbage truck on NC Highway 27 near Highway 150 in Lincolnton. The incident occurred in the evening when a 2011 Toyota Camry, driven by Danica Lashea Borders, failed to reduce speed and hit Carpenter as the garbage truck was stopped in the travel lane. Borders was not injured in the crash and has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed. Authorities do not believe impairment was a factor in the collision, and no other workers were injured. The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation, and a GoFundMe has been organized to support Carpenter’s family. The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.
