Archbishop Adrian Galbas Appointed in Warsaw
Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Adrian Józef Galbas as the new metropolitan archbishop of Warsaw, succeeding Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, who is retiring at 75. Galbas, 56, has been serving as the metropolitan archbishop of Katowice since May 2023 and has a background in spiritual theology. Meanwhile, Chicago Auxiliary Bishop Jeffrey S. Grob has been named the 12th archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, succeeding Jerome E. Listecki upon his retirement. Grob, 63, will be installed on January 14, 2024, and has expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in his home state of Wisconsin. Both appointments reflect recent transitions within the Catholic Church's hierarchy in Poland and the United States.
