Shahed Drone Hits Kharkiv Kindergarten Amid Attacks
Waves of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine overnight killed at least six people and struck multiple cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson. In Kharkiv a Shahed drone hit a private kindergarten in the Kholodnohirskyi district, setting it ablaze; rescuers evacuated roughly 48–50 children to basement shelters, footage shows toddlers being carried from the wreckage, and Ukrainian authorities said one person was killed, several others were injured and many children showed acute stress reactions. In Kherson a Shahed UAV struck a residential building in the Dniprovskyi district, injuring an 80‑year‑old woman and a 52‑year‑old man, and explosives dropped from a drone wounded a 59‑year‑old man; all were taken to hospital. Kyiv blamed Russia for the strikes while Moscow said it targeted energy infrastructure tied to Ukraine’s defense industry. President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks and called for immediate coordinated international action, stronger sanctions and more military support as diplomatic efforts showed signs of faltering and Ukraine pursued additional foreign arms support, including talks about procuring Swedish Gripen fighters.
