12-Year-Old Injured in El Cajon Hit-and-Run

A 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run around 8 p.m. Wednesday on the 300 block of Ballantyne Street near East Park Avenue in El Cajon and was found in the roadway with major head trauma. Witnesses described the fleeing vehicle as a white or silver SUV with front-end damage, and police said it may have damage to the front driver-side headlight. Paramedics took the boy to Rady Children's Hospital; multiple outlets reported he was in critical condition while one later report said he was listed as stable. El Cajon police are reviewing debris and witness statements, noted that leaving the scene with injuries is a felony, and urged anyone with information or who saw a white/silver SUV to call 619-579-3311.
