Indiana Father Sentenced 9 Years Over Daughter's Untreated Diabetes Death

Brent M. Bredhold, a 39-year-old father from Evansville, Indiana, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for neglecting his 12-year-old daughter Alice, whose death was caused by untreated complications from Type 1 diabetes. Although initially charged with neglect causing death, the jury convicted Bredhold of the lesser charge of neglect causing serious bodily injury due to his failure to manage his daughter's condition properly. Testimony revealed that Alice's diabetes had been poorly managed for a long time, despite warnings from the Department of Child Services about her dangerously high blood sugar levels at school. Prosecutors condemned the parents' apathy and neglect, stating they should have been advocates for their daughter's health. The girl's death on July 4, 2024, was deemed preventable with proper care. Alice's mother, Ashley Bredhold, has also been arrested, with her trial scheduled for February 2025.
