Provincial and Federal Governments Open 123 Supportive Affordable Homes in British Columbia Including Salt Spring Island Vancouver

Two new affordable housing projects have recently opened in British Columbia to support vulnerable populations. In Vancouver, Heather Place Building B offers 87 affordable homes designed to accommodate families, seniors, and people with disabilities, featuring a variety of unit sizes and accessible designs, along with community amenities such as a gym and childcare. On Salt Spring Island, a new facility at 161 Drake Road provides 32 supportive units for adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness, plus four affordable homes for low- to moderate-income individuals, with services including meals, laundry, and wellness programs. These Salt Spring homes are operated by Lookout Housing and Health Society, and rents are based on income or disability assistance rates, with employed residents paying about 30% of their income. These projects involve collaboration between provincial and federal governments, local authorities, and community organizations, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in addressing housing needs. Both initiatives aim to provide stability, support, and a foundation for residents to thrive within their communities.
