£1 Billion Cancer Research Hub Planned in Sutton

Plans have been unveiled for a £1 billion expansion of The London Cancer Hub in Sutton, south London, aiming to create one of Europe’s leading centers for cancer research, treatment, and innovation. The proposed development, a partnership between Aviva Capital Partners and Socius, would deliver around one million square feet of advanced research and laboratory space adjacent to The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The project is designed to attract pharmaceutical giants, life sciences start-ups, and academic researchers, fostering collaboration and accelerating breakthroughs in oncology. Facilities will include state-of-the-art labs, GMP manufacturing spaces, flexible offices, and community amenities such as restaurants, a creche, affordable key worker housing, and educational 'Learning Labs.' Sustainability is central to the plan, with buildings targeting net-zero carbon operation and exceeding mandatory energy efficiency standards. The planning application is expected to be determined in 2025.
