Epic Games Launches Developer Webshops, Zero Commission Plan

Epic Games has announced it will launch webshops for developers in June, following its recent legal victory over Apple regarding App Store payment practices. The new webshops will enable developers to offer out-of-app purchases, bypassing the high fees charged by Apple and Google, and will be available in the US and EU on platforms like iOS. Developers will also benefit from a 0% revenue share on the first $1 million in sales per app annually, after which Epic’s standard 12% cut applies. Players using these webshops will earn 5% in Epic Rewards on their purchases. This move comes after a US court ordered Apple to allow developers to direct users to alternative payment systems, criticizing Apple for previously violating a 2021 injunction. As a result, Epic’s flagship game Fortnite will return to the US App Store, with Epic expressing willingness to broaden the agreement globally if Apple complies.
