Jon M Chu Confirms Crazy Rich Asians Series in Development with Scripts Ready

Director Jon M. Chu has confirmed that the Crazy Rich Asians television series is officially in development with scripts complete and production awaiting approval, with the original cast expected to return. The show will draw inspiration from Kevin Kwan's second novel, China Rich Girlfriend, but will not follow the books exactly due to character changes from the first movie, instead using the books to inspire new storylines. Chu emphasized that the TV format allows for a broader exploration of characters and storylines that a movie sequel could not accommodate. The series is being developed under the leadership of showrunner and executive producer Adele Lim, with Chu and Kwan also serving as executive producers. This TV project will complement rather than replace the long-awaited film sequel. The original 2018 film was a major success, grossing over $239 million worldwide and earning a Golden Globe nomination.
