Libyan Asylum Seeker Charged With Sexual Assault In Crewe
Taha Derwish, a 25-year-old man of Libyan nationality, has been charged with sexual touching following a reported assault on Nantwich Road in Crewe, near the Royal Hotel. He was arrested on September 24 and has been remanded in custody ahead of his court appearances at Chester Magistrates' Court and Chester Crown Court. Derwish is currently appealing a refused asylum application and had been staying at the Royal Hotel. Cheshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service have reminded the public about the importance of ensuring a fair trial by refraining from sharing information that could prejudice legal proceedings. Support services are available for those affected by sexual assault in the Greater Manchester area. The case remains active with legal proceedings ongoing.
