UConn Football Suffers Third Consecutive Overtime Road Loss at Rice
UConn fell 37-34 to Rice in double overtime Saturday in Houston, snapping a four-game winning streak and further delaying bowl eligibility. The loss was the Huskies’ third this season and all three defeats have come in overtime on the road. Joe Fagnano opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown to Skyler Bell, finished 32-of-48 for 344 yards and three TDs (still without an interception), and Bell had eight catches for 158 yards. Rice’s Quinton Jackson ripped off multiple long touchdowns, totaled huge yardage and sealed the game with a 23-yard score in the second OT as the Owls piled up roughly 300 rushing yards, exposing UConn’s struggles against the run. Rainy conditions and missed chances — including Chris Freeman slipping on a 46-yard field-goal attempt and an overthrow by Fagnano in the second overtime — helped decide the chaotic contest.
