Blue Jays Win Game 1; Dodgers Even Series
The Toronto Blue Jays opened the World Series with an 11-4 win in Game 1 at Rogers Centre, erupting for a nine-run sixth inning that included Addison Barger's historic pinch-hit grand slam — the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history — and Alejandro Kirk’s homer, the first by a Mexican-born player in the Fall Classic. Blake Snell was chased in the sixth, and Toronto’s bullpen, bench contributions and a strong showing from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. helped seal the rout in the Jays' first World Series appearance since 1993. Los Angeles bounced back in Game 2, when Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw a complete game and Will Smith homered in a 5-1 Dodgers win that evened the series 1-1. Toronto is expected to flip its rotation, with Max Scherzer set to start Game 3 in Los Angeles and Shane Bieber scheduled for Game 4 as the series shifts there Monday night.
