Kenya Offers $7,700 Reward for Escaped Serial Killer Suspected in 40 Murders
Kenyan authorities have offered a reward of one million shillings (approximately $7,700) for information leading to the capture of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a suspected serial killer accused of murdering over 40 women in Nairobi. Khalusha escaped custody in August 2024 along with 12 others by cutting through a wire mesh roof and scaling a perimeter wall of what was considered one of the capital's most secure police stations near the US Embassy and UN offices. The escape and the failure to rearrest him more than a year later have sparked public outrage and criticism of the police's handling of the case. Activists like Khalid Hussein have accused the authorities of negligence, stating police were not serious about solving the murders and that some victims' bodies remain unrecovered and decomposing in quarry pits. Police officials maintain they are "on track" to resolving the case and have responded to recent media scrutiny with the renewed reward offer, encouraging credible tips to restore public trust. Several officers were previously arrested for allegedly aiding the escape but were released on bail, fueling further doubts about the investigation's progress.
