Study Examines Impact of Parental Leave on Mothers' Entrepreneurship

Research indicates that the duration of parental leave, rather than the amount of financial support, significantly influences mothers' likelihood to become entrepreneurs, as more time off enables reflection and planning for self-employment. However, for some groups, particularly middle-class mothers with heavy household burdens, the financial component still plays a role in entrepreneurial decisions. Additionally, the challenges of balancing entrepreneurship and parenting are highlighted by a survey of founder parents, which reveals concerns over time management and the intersection of family responsibilities with startup intensity. The survey also notes a lack of data on differences between male and female entrepreneurs regarding parenting, especially in countries like Israel where family is central. These findings suggest that parental leave policies and family considerations are key factors shaping mothers' participation in entrepreneurship.
