Weekend Fatalities: Dungiven Victim Named, More

Police have named the victim of a suspected hit-and-run near Dungiven as 69-year-old Patrick Flanagan; he was found seriously injured on Foreglen Road in the early hours and later died in hospital, and the PSNI has appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage. In west Dublin’s Tyrrelstown, a man in his 20s died after a disturbance at Curragh Hall Crescent; another man in his 20s has been arrested and is being detained, the scene preserved and the State Pathologist notified as gardaí investigate. In Kildare town, Ryan Weir Gibbons suffered a head injury during an altercation on October 26 and died days later; a late-teen arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. In Waterford, gardaí are investigating an assault in Tramore that left a man in his 30s hospitalized and resulted in the arrest and detention under Section 4 of another man in his 30s. In Columbus, Ohio, police say a man was killed when a red Mitsubishi Lancer left the road and struck him in the Weinland Park area around 1:35 a.m.; the driver and five passengers fled the scene and investigators have appealed for information.
