New Pornographers Drummer Arrested for Child Pornography

Joe Seiders, drummer for the indie rock band The New Pornographers, was arrested in Palm Desert, California, on charges including possession of child pornography, annoying/molesting a child, and invasion of privacy after police responded to reports involving an 11-year-old boy and suspicious restroom activity. Authorities conducted searches of Seiders' residence, vehicle, and phone, finding evidence implicating him in the incidents as well as in additional crimes. Seiders is currently in custody with bail set at $1 million and a court appearance scheduled for April 22. The New Pornographers released a statement expressing shock and devastation over the charges, announcing they have severed all ties with Seiders and expressing support for those affected by his actions. Seiders had been with the band since 2014, contributing to their most recent albums. The investigation remains ongoing.
