'60 Minutes' Emmy Nod Spurs Lawsuit, FCC Probe
The CBS '60 Minutes' interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, now nominated for Outstanding Edited Interview at the 46th News & Documentary Emmy Awards, is at the center of a legal and regulatory controversy. Former President Donald Trump is suing CBS and its parent company Paramount Global for up to $20 billion, alleging that the interview was deceptively edited to favor Harris in the 2024 presidential campaign, particularly her response about Israel. CBS denies any wrongdoing, stating that the edits were standard editorial practice, and has released the full unedited interview and transcript to the public. The Federal Communications Commission has launched an investigation into whether CBS violated its news distortion policy. The Emmy Awards ceremonies are scheduled for late June in New York. The segment competes with interviews featuring Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Pope Francis, Celine Dion, and Brittney Griner.
