DP World, DPA, Nevomo Sign MoU for Pilot Magnetic Rail Freight at Kandla Port

DP World, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), and Nevomo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop and implement a pilot project using Nevomo's MagRail proprietary technology for autonomous, self-propelled movement of rail-based cargo within the existing port ecosystem at Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat. This 750-meter pilot project will demonstrate the use of electric-powered wagons with linear motor technology on existing rail tracks, aiming to enhance capacity, efficiency, speed, and interoperability for containerized and bulk cargo. The initiative seeks to reduce operational costs and CO2 emissions, aligning with India's National Logistics Policy and PM Gati Shakti agenda to modernize and integrate the country's logistics infrastructure. The collaboration is seen as a strategic advancement in port infrastructure, supporting growing cargo demands and improving yard efficiency by reducing reliance on diesel vehicles. DP World leads efforts to introduce this innovative freight technology, with DPA facilitating its exploration and implementation. The partners emphasize the transformative potential of this project to create greener, faster, and more efficient logistics systems in India.
