UK Seizes World's Largest Batch of Illegal Weight-Loss Injections in Factory Raid

The UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has conducted the world's largest seizure of unlicensed weight-loss medicines, dismantling a factory in Northampton producing counterfeit injections labelled as containing tirzepatide and retatrutide, ingredients found in Eli Lilly's Mounjaro and experimental obesity drugs. Authorities confiscated 2,000 filled syringes, tens of thousands of empty pens, raw chemicals, and approximately £20,000 in cash, with an estimated street value of £250,000. Health Secretary Wes Streeting condemned the criminals for risking public health by selling dangerous and illegal products, urging consumers not to buy from unregulated sources. Eli Lilly praised the MHRA's crackdown, highlighting the risks posed by counterfeit drugs whose contents are unknown and potentially unsafe. The MHRA's enforcement marks the first discovery of such a factory in central England and represents a significant blow to the illegal trade, emphasizing the growing global concern over counterfeit weight-loss medicines.
