Over 6 Million Eggs Recalled Across Multiple States Over Salmonella Contamination
More than six million eggs from the Black Sheep Egg Company have been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination discovered during an FDA inspection, which found 40 environmental samples positive for seven different strains of Salmonella, some linked to human illness. The recall affects free-range large grade A brown eggs in 12- and 18-count cartons with "best by" dates from August 22 through October 31, 2025, distributed across states including Arkansas, Missouri, Indiana, Texas, California, and Mississippi, with warnings that some products may have been repackaged by other companies. Consumers are urged not to consume, sell, or serve these eggs and to clean surfaces that may have come into contact with them to prevent cross-contamination. Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps and usually appear 12 to 72 hours after consumption. Separately, Coop has recalled its Änglamark six-pack eggs with a best-before date of November 2, 2025, as a precaution after salmonella was found during a routine check at the supplier's facility, although no infected eggs have been confirmed. The eggs should be returned to stores for a refund, and heating to 70 degrees Celsius kills the bacteria, reducing risk if consumed properly.
