Uganda Multiple Vehicle Crash Kills 63 on Kampala-Gulu Highway
A tragic multi-vehicle accident on the Kampala-Gulu Highway in western Uganda has claimed the lives of at least 63 people, according to police reports. The crash occurred shortly after midnight when two buses traveling in opposite directions attempted to overtake other vehicles, leading to a head-on collision followed by a chain reaction involving four vehicles, including a lorry and a saloon car. The accident site was near Kitaleba Village, and besides the fatalities, many passengers sustained injuries. Ugandan authorities have launched an investigation into the causes of the collision, which highlights the frequent and deadly nature of road accidents in the country, often linked to narrow roads and speeding. The buses involved were identified as Isuzu models operated by Nile Star Coaches and Planet Company. This incident underscores ongoing road safety challenges in Uganda's transportation infrastructure.
