Bompastor optimistic Kerr may return for Chelsea this season

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has stated that it remains uncertain when star striker Sam Kerr will return to action as she continues her recovery from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2024. While Kerr has returned to individual training and is working diligently, Bompastor emphasized that it is difficult to set a clear timeline for her comeback, especially with only a few matches left in the season. Chelsea, having been eliminated from the Champions League, are still in contention for a sixth consecutive Women's Super League title and are set to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 18. Bompastor and Chelsea's performance staff are doing everything possible for Kerr to play this season, but her recovery has extended beyond the typical timeframe for such injuries. The uncertainty extends to Australia's national team, with hopes she can participate in upcoming matches as the Matildas prepare for the Women's Asian Cup next year. Kerr has been a key player for Chelsea, scoring 99 goals in 128 appearances since joining the club.
