Weekend Closures Disrupt I-94 St. Paul, I-135 Wichita Traffic for Bridge Projects

Several major highway closures are scheduled this weekend due to bridge construction projects in Kansas and Minnesota. In Wichita, northbound I-135 will close starting Saturday morning for bridge formwork removal, with detours recommended via K-96 and Hillside; this project will continue with further closures through 2028. In St. Paul, Minnesota, both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 94 will be closed from Friday night to Monday morning between key points near downtown as crews work on the John Ireland Boulevard bridge, which is being rebuilt to modern safety standards with updated pedestrian and bike facilities. Multiple ramp closures will also be in effect, with detours directed via I-35E, Highway 36, and Highway 280 for both directions. The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises that nearby residents and businesses may experience noise from jackhammering and pile driving during the weekend. These closures are part of long-term infrastructure improvements aimed at maintaining safety and improving traffic flow in both regions.
