King Charles III Approves Dr Fiona Gibson as Bishop of Taunton
Dr. Fiona Gibson has been appointed as the new Bishop of Taunton in Somerset, succeeding Reverend Ruth Worsley who moved on to become interim Bishop of Liverpool. The nomination was approved by King Charles III, and Dr. Gibson will be installed in early 2026 at Wells Cathedral. Dr. Gibson, previously Archdeacon of Ludlow, brings extensive experience from urban and rural ministry settings and a background in education, having trained at Homerton College, Cambridge, and Oak Hill Theological College. She expressed enthusiasm for serving the diverse communities across Somerset, from Bath to Exmoor and coastal areas, and looks forward to collaborating with Bishop Michael Beasley and the local church community. Bishop Beasley praised her expertise and experience as valuable assets for growing the church and its community work in the region. Dr. Gibson is married with two adult children and has a history of leadership roles within the Church of England, including chairing the Hereford Diocesan Board of Education and supporting ordained Evangelical Anglican women.
