Sterling Heights Officer Rescues Kayaker From Clinton River

Sterling Heights Police Officer Nikolas Bruno heroically rescued a woman from the Clinton River after her kayak capsized and she was left clinging to a downed tree without a life jacket. The woman, kayaking for the first time with her daughter and niece, had hit her head and was struggling to stay afloat before Bruno arrived and jumped into the cold river to save her. A bystander provided a life jacket, which Bruno helped the woman put on before swimming her back to shore. The woman's daughter, who also lost her kayak, was found safe on a nearby log dam and later rescued by the fire department. Officer Bruno, a U.S. Navy veteran with lifeguarding experience, was praised for his quick action and bravery, emphasizing the importance of always wearing a life jacket. The Sterling Heights Police Department highlighted his actions as exemplary of their commitment to community safety.
