13-Year-Old Dies After Striking Braided Cable While Riding Electric Bike in Everett
A 13-year-old boy named Emiliano “Emi” Munoz died from head trauma sustained after striking a braided metal cable stretched between a fence post and a traffic bollard while riding his electric bike or scooter in Everett, Washington. The accident occurred on May 2 as he attempted to cut through a grassy lot to reach a nearby cul-de-sac; he was taken to Harborview Medical Center and died three days later. The cable, reportedly installed by a private resident without clear permission on or near a city-owned trail, had been a known hazard for neighbors and has since been removed by authorities. Everett Police, Fire Departments, and the City’s Risk Management team are investigating the incident. A memorial has been established at the accident site, and a GoFundMe campaign has raised support for Munoz’s family. The community, including the Everett mayor and the boy’s school, mourns the loss of a beloved student known for his warm spirit and kindness.
