Windows 95 Chime, Minecraft Soundtrack Join Registry
The Microsoft Windows 95 startup chime, composed by Brian Eno, and the soundtrack for Minecraft, composed by Daniel Rosenfeld, have been inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress for their cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance. This year's 25 inductees include a diverse range of audio works, such as Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On,' the original Broadway cast recording of 'Hamilton,' and Elton John's 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.' The Registry, which honors significant recordings at least 10 years old, received over 2,600 nominations from the public in 2025. Other notable additions include Tracy Chapman's debut album and Mary J. Blige's 'My Life.' The Registry aims to preserve these audio treasures as part of America's evolving cultural heritage.
