BBC Plans Parkinson's Drama 'But When We Dance' Starring Laura Linney Rhys Ifans

Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans have been cast in lead roles in the BBC's upcoming 90-minute drama "But When We Dance," which tells the story of two people brought together by their shared diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Linney plays Emma Dretzin, a pianist, composer, and single mother, while Ifans portrays Tony Evans, the deputy head of a local primary school. The film, set and shot in North Norfolk, explores themes of humor, dance, friendship, and the challenges of living with Parkinson's, aiming to transcend common assumptions about the condition. Written by Paul Mayhew-Archer, who has Parkinson's himself, and directed by Oscar winner John Madden, the drama features an ensemble cast including Monica Dolan and Rory Kinnear. Mayhew-Archer expressed that despite the difficulties of Parkinson's, it has brought unexpected opportunities, including the chance to bring this story to life with a talented team.
